A motor vehicle mutasi is the process of moving a vehicle’s registration and identification from one regident (registration and identification) area — a Polda or Samsat — to another regident area.

- Official physical inspection (cek fisik) results from the origin and destination Samsat
- Sale and purchase receipt (if a name transfer is included)

When is a vehicle mutasi needed?
A mutasi is needed when the owner moves domicile permanently to another province or regency, or when buying a used vehicle from outside the region.
Does the number plate change after a mutasi?
Yes. Once the inbound mutasi is complete, the vehicle will receive a new registration number (a local KH plate) and a new STNK/TNKB.
Must overdue tax be settled before an outbound mutasi?
Yes. All tax arrears at the origin Samsat must first be settled before the Surat Fiskal Mutasi is issued.
